C. rugosus spawned eggs again – All Things Crabby
It appears I have a mating pair of Coenobita rugosus so I’m making a post to keep track of their spawns.
Back in 2017 someone in the vertical tank spawned in the freshwater bowl. I wasn’t sure who but everyone in that tank is rather small so there were not obvious suspects.
January 16th 2020 I moved two of my C. rugosus into the tank with the two captive bred C. clypeatus. On February 18th 2020 one of them spawned eggs in the fresh water bowl. On April 25th it happened again! So I have a prolific couple if nothing else. However, she keeps dropping in the freshwater instead of the ocean water. I don’t have a lot of room in the tank but I may try to give her a brackish pool as well.
Moa Lundberg has reported a pair of her C rugosus mating year round. I have not caught these two in the act or even seen the eggs in the female. They are both fairly shy but now I will try to watch them a bit closer to see if I can catch something on video.
