Which Is The Best Species Of Monkey To Have As A Pet?
Specialized Carrier for Comfortable Travel
When it comes to ensuring your pet monkey’s comfort during travel, a specialized carrier is essential. Look for carriers designed specifically for monkeys, with features like extra ventilation, secure closures, and sturdy construction to keep your furry friend safe and content on the go. Providing a comfortable and familiar space for your pet monkey to rest in while traveling can help reduce stress and make the journey more enjoyable for both of you. Consider investing in a specialized carrier to make your adventures with your pet monkey as smooth and comfortable as possible. If you have a small monkey such as a marmoset or a baby squirrel monkey we used a similar version of this travel carrier when Ollie was younger. We took out the bar and added Ollie’s favorite blanket and stuffy for comfort.
Travel-sized Water and Food Bowls for Convenience
Travel-sized water and food bowls are essential items to have when traveling with your pet monkey. These compact bowls are designed to be easily portable, allowing you to provide your furry friend with food and water on the go without taking up too much space in your luggage. Having these travel-sized bowls ensures that your pet monkey stays hydrated and fed during your adventures, making it convenient for you to keep their essential needs met while on the move. If your monkey is younger and not a chewer you can use the collapsable dog bowls which are easy to clean and carry. However, if your monkey is older or likes to chew, the rubber bowls are not a great option and you should try finding the small metal food bowls you can hook onto the travel cage such as these. For water, we always hang a small bottle on the side of Ollie’s travel enclosure. You can find them at Walmart, Amazon, or the Pet Store.
Calming Aid to Keep Your Monkey Relaxed
Another important item to consider bringing along is a calming aid to help keep your monkey relaxed during travel. Travel can be stressful for animals, especially for monkeys who might not be accustomed to being on the move. By using a calming aid specifically designed for pets, you can help soothe your monkey’s nerves and make the journey more comfortable for them. This can also help prevent any anxiety or restlessness that your monkey may experience while in unfamiliar surroundings. Keeping your monkey calm and relaxed will make for a smoother and more enjoyable travel experience for both you and your furry companion. If you plan to travel a lot you can ask your veterinarian what their suggestions are that would best suit your pet monkey. I DO NOT recommend giving your pet anything without advising your veterinarian first. A few items we have used in the past are calming lavender diffusers, spraying Ollie’s stuffy with a plant based calming spray such as this one, and Bach’s Rescue Remedy Drops.
Please note we did consult our veterinarian before using any of these items around or for our pet monkey.
In addition to calming aids, it’s also essential to pack a variety of toys and activities to keep your monkey entertained during your travels, ensuring they stay engaged and happy throughout the trip.
Toys and Activities for Entertainment on the Go
Interactive toys, puzzles, and chew toys can help keep your pet monkey busy while in transit, preventing boredom and potential destructive behavior. Providing your monkey with mental and physical stimulation through play can also help them expend energy and reduce any stress or anxiety they may be feeling in a new environment. Consider bringing along their favorite toys or introducing new ones to keep them entertained and content during your journey.
Because there’s not really a great narrowed down selection specifically designed for “monkey toys”, you do need to research and know your pet monkey before giving them toys. You can find a lot of our favorite toys that we use for Ollie on our Amazon Store. We like using a lot of the interactive bird toys during our travels to keep Ollie entertained. They can be a tad messy but it helps Ollie to not get stressed so it’s worth it for us. A lot of the bird toys come with little hooks so you can easily attach them into the travel enclosure or switch it up during your travel to give them something new to play with.
This focus on keeping your monkey engaged and happy is essential, especially during unexpected situations that may arise while traveling. Being prepared with toys and activities can help distract your monkey in the event of any unforeseen delays or disruptions, making the next section on “First Aid Kit for Any Unexpected Situations” an important item to have on hand for your pet monkey’s well-being.
First Aid Kit for Any Unexpected Situations
Being prepared for any unexpected situations while traveling with your pet monkey is crucial for their well-being. Having a first aid kit on hand can help you address any minor injuries or illnesses that may occur during your trip. Your first aid kit should include essential items such as bandages, antiseptic wipes, tweezers, and any necessary medications prescribed by your veterinarian. Additionally, having a list of emergency contacts, including local veterinarians or animal hospitals, can be helpful in case of a more serious situation. Being proactive and having a well-stocked first aid kit can give you peace of mind and ensure that you are ready to handle any unexpected events that may arise during your travels with your pet monkey. When ever we traveled we always mapped out 24/7 urgent care facilities and made sure to call to see if they had a veterinarian that specialized in primate care. We even took longer routes just to be sure we were never too far from a vet. You will quickly find that primate veterinarians are far and few so it’s essential to have your own on the go first aid kit. We have built our own Ollie specific first aid since there isn’t a monkey first aid kit on the market. You can easily take items from the cat or dog first aid kits and add other items to it to customize it more for your pet monkey.
In Closing
Make sure your next adventure with your pet monkey is smooth sailing by packing these essential items. From a comfortable carrier to first aid supplies, you’ll be ready for anything that comes your way. So start preparing today, and get ready for an unforgettable journey with your furry friend. Remember, a well-prepared traveler is a happy traveler!
